Socotra Island + Somaliland + Djibouti 12–14 Days | The most unique combination in Africa Milestone's portfolio — and one of the rarest trips available anywhere in the world. Begin on Socotra, Earth's most alien island: dragon blood trees, pristine beaches, and a landscape unchanged for millions of years. Then cross to the African continent for Somaliland's prehistoric rock art and Djibouti's geological wonders. Three extraordinary places, zero tourist crowds, one unforgettable itinerary.
Why This Combination Works
- Socotra sits in the Arabian Sea, geographically between Somaliland and Oman — it is the natural stopping point on this route
- All three destinations are frontier, uncrowded, and genuinely extraordinary — not mainstream Africa tourism
- Visit Horn Africa operates across all three destinations, making logistics seamless
- Total travel distance covered: Socotra → Gulf of Aden → Horn of Africa — a historical trade route followed for 2,000 years
- Ideal for photographers, naturalists, historians, and adventure travellers who have already done mainstream Africa
Highlights
- Socotra: Dragon blood tree forests on the Diksam Plateau — 6 million years of botanical isolation
- Socotra: Detwah Lagoon and Shuab Beach — Indian Ocean at its most pristine
- Socotra: Hoq Cave — ancient sailor inscriptions in 5 languages from 2,000 years ago
- Somaliland: Laas Geel prehistoric rock art — 17,000 years old, vivid and perfectly preserved
- Somaliland: Hargeisa and Berbera — authentic Somali culture and Red Sea coast
- Djibouti: Lac Abbé limestone chimneys — geological wonder of the Afar Triangle
- Djibouti: Lake Assal — Africa's saltiest and one of Earth's lowest points
- Djibouti: Whale shark snorkelling (seasonal, November–January)
